A beach club and a private house in Barú answer different needs. At a club, you might want a social outing, a table or particular facilities for a few hours. At a house, you may want exclusive spaces for your party and, if that is the plan, somewhere to stay overnight. The better choice depends on how you will use the place, rather than one category being inherently better.

Beach clubs differ. Some proposals emphasise music, others food or facilities; reserving loungers does not necessarily reserve the whole venue. Houses vary too. Establish the spaces, service, access and capacity before comparing an advertised amount.

Compare the actual offer

This table organises questions for a club alongside the specific answers for our house. It does not describe every Barú operator as if all were the same.

Compare the same size of visit

A two-person bill does not automatically tell you what works for ten. Request the total for all attendees, their intended meals and transport from the same starting point. Include children and ages: an adult rate does not always explain the rest of the calculation.

Also check the space that total provides. At Casa Gaviota, a couple books the entire house and beach, just as a family within overnight capacity does. A room reservation elsewhere or a reserved area within a club may use another cost and space model.

The facilities you actually need

If a pool, a particular shower or an access feature is essential, ask for that specific facility. Do not infer it from a venue’s name. Look at room and bathroom photographs as well as a wide sea view, and ask how people reach each area.

What our house feels like

Our house is in Punta Piedra, with approximately eighty metres of private beach without vendors. We welcome one group; both house and beach are exclusively for your party. There are three bedrooms, three bathrooms, terraces, a balcony and open-air social spaces. You can move from the table to a hammock and the water without finding a different place to gather.

Atmosphere and sharing the space

A family may need shade and clear meal times. Friends might want conversation and the house’s Soundboks speaker. A papayera band is possible for a celebration, with arrangements discussed in advance. Ask about what your party wants rather than assuming an activity programme from the type of accommodation.

Exclusive use does not mean silence throughout the area. Boats and neighbouring properties may be audible. Agreeing music and habits within your own party matters too, particularly for those sleeping earlier or spending time with a book.

Rustic comfort and support

Every bedroom has a fan, without air conditioning. Showers use natural-temperature fresh water and have no heater. Each bed has a mosquito net, renewed annually; bring repellent. This is a house open to the coastal climate, with sand and trees around it.

Manuel looks after the property, lives fifty metres away and is there at night. Daily cleaning covers surfaces and common areas. Starlink with battery backup is available. These details explain how the visit works without treating “private house” as an assumed list of comforts.

How meals work

Basic gives you accommodation and an equipped kitchen: buy groceries in Cartagena before arrival. With Full, the cook prepares meals from arrival lunch through departure breakfast. Our food guide explains age-based rates and service by night.

A day trip includes a fresh Caribbean lunch; fried fish, coconut rice, patacones and salad are an example. Check drinks and extras in the proposal. Do not automatically apply overnight food rates to visitors coming for a few hours.

Decide by the kind of visit

First choose between a day outing and a stay. If you are based in Cartagena with evening commitments, compare the full outward and return schedule. Our example day leaves Cartagena at 08:00, with a return boat departing Barú around 14:30–15:00. That is departure time, not arrival in the city.

For dinner and a morning here, consider the night alongside 11:00 check-in and 08:00 checkout. Two nights add a full day without travel. Boats do not run after dark, and the final approach to the house is always by water via the dock.

For stays of two or more nights, the Barú village round-trip boat is included. One night in Basic adds COP 300,000 per group; Full incorporates it once. Cartagena transport is separately quoted. Accommodation varies with dates: use the current enquiry to compare totals.

A private day trip starts from COP 1,000,000 per group for house-and-beach use, with a proposal for your attendees and date. Read our day-trip checklist and use the day request. With space, facilities, meals, timings and the total clear, you can choose what suits your party without relying on a label.
